Camper Water Hookup Instructions Recreational vehicles are designed for “boondocking,” or camping without hookups. A fresh water tank, volt battery-operated appliances and holding tanks allow most RV travelers to disconnect from utilities for a few days. Hookups provide increased comfort, including the ability to use unlimited water and run items that draw a great deal of power such as televisions and air conditioners. Most RV parks provide either partial hookups, which include electricity and water, or full hookups, which add sewer service.
AC WIRING HOOKUP TO YOUR RV ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. Inverter/chargers have a unique feature that allows automatic operation when wired into the RV’s electrical system.
You have been driving all day, but the kids in the back are happily watching their DVDs, playing with their PSPs, and one is even reading a book. You have checked into the RV park, have paid for the appropriate hookup, and just need to level the rig before you get to join in the peace, rest, and relaxation. This is why you bought that RV in the first place. Rather than rely on yourself for a change, you open a hatch, unload what you need of the foot cord, and in one motion plug back into the world.
The power flows from the power grid, and the most efficient power production facilities in the world, directly into your camper’s battery charger as AC power. Should any irregularities arise, lags, sags, spikes, or transients in the power supply, these are felt by the charger alone, as it transforms what ever dirty power is supplied to it, to DC power. The DC power coming from the charger has a choice, and flows to the point of least resistance. A circuit that is completed will have far less resistance than a battery, so the battery charger will directly power the DVD player and PSP above, bypassing the battery via the wires.
Since the battery chargers have more output capacity than the load, they charge the batteries too. Multiple battery chargers can be installed to accommodate the load and need.

It goes into much greater and well illustrated detail. I’m interested in covering those things that can drive U Nutz. The RV chassis is isolated from ground by definition. Metal leveling jacks and such, mounted on the vehicle frame do not make an adequate ground contact. One thing I can’t stand is to be HOT! You see, I grew up in the South, and we didn’t have air conditioning until I was 18 years old. Now I just don’t like to sweat, especially when I sit down to dinner. So our dry camping options were limited by climate. Our goal was to follow the “good” weather around and never have to use the AC. Of course, plans don’t always work out. The brand name is TurboKool and was previously called the Rec-Air. If you’re not familiar with them, a swamp cooler correctly called an “evaporative cooler” is a simple appliance.

This should be a great addition as we plan to again winter in the southwest where there are many opportunities like the ones we had a brief chance to explore last year boondocking in Quartzsite, Arizona. The system upgrade is now just about complete and here is a functional description along with a full set of schematics and blue prints that I created and then followed for the installation. If you plan to do any boondocking or dry camping whatsoever, you will likely need a portable gasoline generator.

Tweet This page is part of a sequence of questions on our RV electrical systems section. You can browse the rest of the related questions at the bottom of this page. The answer to this question depends on whether your RV has 30 amp or 50 amp capabilities. You may have already read this from a previous question in this series, but you can easily know which you have by looking at your power cord.
A large plug with 3 prongs is most common and is 30 amps. Bigger and newer RVs could have a 50 amp plug which is large and has four prongs. No matter how much power is available to you at the power source, this is the maximum your RV will be able to accommodate. What often happens is when people aren’t in an RV park they store their RV at their house where they only have the common amp household outlet.
If you want to keep your batteries charged while you store your RV at your house you will need a 15 to 30 amp adapter.
